Kelly Sherman-Conroy is the newest member of the ELCA Youth Ministry Network’s Board of Directors. There were two positions open for renewal in terms that will begin at the conclusion of the Extravaganza, January 25-28, 2019. Kelly Sherman-Conroy will be filling the position currently held by Dr. Jeremy Myers. Jeremy will have completed two full terms serving on the board and is not eligible for another renewal. Kinda Makini has completed her first term and was reappointed to serve a second term.
Kelly Sherman-Conroy is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, and is a PhD student at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is also a member of the ELCA’s American Indian/Alaska Native Lutheran Association.
Kelly is the Minister of Social Justice and Advocacy for Children, Youth and Family Ministry at Nativity Lutheran Church in St. Anthony, Minnesota. She has served on a number of synodical committees and boards, and has led workshops at Extravaganzas and other events in the past. She has been an advocate for justice, inclusion and for the care of creation and has worked in Children, Youth and Family Ministry for over 21 years.
Kelly has a passion for ministry with young people and their families, and is excited to work with the Network board, where she hopes to help deepen our commitment that “people with different backgrounds, skills, attitudes and experiences bring fresh ideas and perceptions.”
Kinda Makini will continue her work with the Network Board for a second 3-year term. Kinda directs the Inner City Youth Group in Detroit, Michigan. She has a deep commitment to faith formation with young people, especially those who feel disconnected from the church.
Kinda was the team leader for the MYLE (Multicultural Youth Leadership Event) that preceded the ELCA Youth Gathering this past summer.
We welcome Kelly and Kinda to the Network Board of Directors.
