Looking for Leadership

Hello Network friends!

Nominations are now open for individuals to serve on the board of directors of the ELCA Youth Ministry Network.

The Network board is responsible the overall mission, vision and goals of the Network, and empowers leadership teams to carry out the work of the Network. It is not a “working board,” in that the board isn’t responsible for putting on Oasis, or the Extravaganza, or any of our other programs. Rather, the board sets goals and ensures that our teams have the resources necessary to carry out their programs.

I always tell board members that their primary job is to pay attention and to listen to those who work in congregational faith formation, both volunteers and professionals, so that the things that the Network does are aligned with congregational needs. This will be especially important, as the board is stepping in to a strategic planning process that will help us move forward for the next three years.

The Network’s board of directors meets approximately every six weeks for an online meeting, and meets in-person in the days prior to the Extravaganza. The terms of board members last three years, and members can be reappointed once. Terms begin at the conclusion of the Extravaganza.

If you feel like there is someone you know who would make a great board member, please feel free to nominate them. (It is preferred that you talk to them about this first, so that when they receive a contact, it’s not a surprise to them!) Or, if you feel called to this position yourself, please don’t hesitate to self-nominate.

This year, there are two positions that are open. One is currently held by Matthew Lovett. Matthew is eligible to serve an additional term. The other position is currently held by Dr. Kelly Sherman Conroy. Kelly has served two full terms and is not eligible for renewal.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at todd@elcaymnet.org.

God’s peace,

Todd
